Emergency Life saving procedure of Balloon Atrial Septostomy of 2 ½ month old baby who was critical & diagnosed to have DTGA with VSD with PS, was done on 28.03.2018. His Baseline Spo2 was 58% which increased to 72% post procedure & he was stabilized and referred back to the Department of CVTS for further management.

  • MERIL Live complex coronary intervention workshop 27th November organised by the Dept. Of Cardiology, Sion, Mumbai. 
  • Face the Examiners National level Academic program November 2015 organised by The Dept Of Cardiology attended by 150 Superspeciality Residents. 
  • Clinicopathologic Meet conducted every month attended by cardiology and pathology resident from all colleges of Mumbai every month.



Academic activities

Academic activities are carried out in the department on regular basis. The activities are centered round the training of the DM Cardiology Resident doctors MD Medicine Resident doctors and the paramedics like junior staff Nurses.
     
The academic activity consists of teaching rounds in the ward and the ICCU daily, Grand Rounds once a week in the Ward and the ICCU, Seminars on Saturday morning, Journal class on Monday morning at 8 AM.
     
Case presentations to the faculty members is carried out every week on Saturday afternoon in the prelunch session.
     
Catheterization meetings with Surgeons is carried out regularly for discussion and management of complicated cases. All the academic activities are supervised by a senior consultant. There is also a monthly clinical meeting held at the hospital in which the doctors of the other hospitals also participate. Residents present interesting cases in Medicine Department every 3 monthly. Papers are presented in front of the SRS committee of Sion Hospital.

  • Recently, a Live Interventional Cardiology Workshop was conducted by Department of Cardiology, L.T.M.G. Hospital, Sion, on 18thNovember, 2016 with World Wide Live coverage via internet and live  relay at Meril Live Centre at Vapi.  The workshop had complex coronary interventions cases which were performed  by expert faculty of our Department under supervision of Dr. Mizuki Hirose, Director of Cardiovascular Medicine at Meirikai Chou General Hospital, Tokyo, Japan.
  • Article on “Prevalence and predictors of ventriculo-atrial conduction in structurally normal hearts” Authored by Ganesh Patil, Milind Phadke, Yash Lokhandwala, Zohaib Shaikh, Pratap Nathani, Ajay Mahajanw was published in Indian Heart Journal.
  • Life Saving BMV of patient in Cardiogenic Shock in Pulmonary edema with Giant Left Atrium was performed successfully by Dr. Milind Phadke under Guidance of Dr. P. J. Nathani, Dr. A. U. Mahajan.
  • Life Saving Complex Coronary Bifurcation Angioplasty of patient with Critical Left Main disease with Cardiogenic Shock was performed successfully by radial route by Dr. A. U. Mahajan, under guidance of Dr. P. J. Nathani.
  • Both the said procedures had wide critical acclaim in the Interventional Cardiology community.

Live audio visual demonstration of Cardiac Interventions

The Department of Cardiology organized A Live audio visual demonstration of Cardiac Interventions on 27th February, 2017, with live relay in Auditorium. This was organized as a prelude to TRINITY 2017 programme. In the said workshop cases of Coronary Angioplasty & Balloon Mitral Valvuloplasty were performed by Dr. P. J. Nathani, Professor & Head & Assisted by Dr. M.S. Phadke, Associate Professor.  Dr. M.S. Phadke also demonstrated Device Closure of Atrial Septal Defect.

 

Interesting Case Presentation

Dr. Arvind Singh, SSMO, received Ist prize in Interesting Case Presentation category in the recently held SRS Annual Scientific Meeting held on 11& 12th April, 2017.

 

Central India Cardiology Conference

Dr. Zohaib Farooq Shaikh delivered with lecture on “Acute- Chest Pain Evaluation” at Central India Cardiology Conference organised by CSI at Nagpur – April 8/9/2017

The said workshop was attended by students & faculty of LTMG Hospital & active interaction made the said programme a grand success.




Workshop on OCT

Workshop on OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) imaging & its utilisation in complex PCI was performed on 12.07.2017 which was preceded by Dr. Keith Oldroyd, Honorary Professor (Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences). University of Glasgow & Dr. A. U. Mahajan, under guidance of Dr. P. J. Nathani.


1st Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)

05.08.2017 – 1st Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) was conducted at LTMG Hospital, Sion, in a patient which high surgical risk. This is the first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Transplants done in any Government Hospitals in Western India. The procedure was a grand success with patient discharged within 4 days without any residual gradient across aortic valve. This was conducted by Dr. Samin Sharma Interventional Cardiologist, Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. Dr. A. U. Mahajan & Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao, Interventional Cardiologist, under the able guidance of Dr. P. J. Nathani

 

 

DM Cardiology Practical exam 

21st & 22nd August, 2017 - DM Cardiology Practical exam was conducted.       

  • Dr. P. J. Nathani, Dr. M.S. Phadke, were invited as Faculty for the "Face the Examiners" teaching programme for DM/DNB Cardiology students held in Hyderabad  on 11th & 12 th November, 2017.
  • Dr. A. U. Mahajan was invited at CSI Headquarters, Kolkata for Editing & Finalizing "CSI position statement for management of Heart Failure in India".
  • Dr. Prashant S. Pawar was facilitated by Indian Society of Electrocardiography at ISECON conference, held in Thane for the prestigious "Young Investigator Award" which was conferred upon him at Annual APHRS conference in Japan

Workshop on Bio-absorbable scaffold

Live Workshop on Bio-absorbable scaffold implantation utilizing OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) in complex PCI was performed on 05.12.2017 by Dr. P. J. Nathani & Dr. A. U. Mahajan with world-wide relay using internet services.

 

Expert Panel

Dr. A. U. Mahajan, was invited at Directorate General of Health Services, Office of Drugs Controller General (India) at New Delhi as expert consultant for Meeting of the SEC (Cardiovascular & Renal) on 13.12.2017, where in various drugs & devices were reviewed for FDA clearance.  



6th March, 2018

Workshop on My Val TM Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation on 20thFebruary, 2018 was conducted. The above procedures have established department of Cardiology LTMG Hospital, Sion, as THE ONLY TEACHING MEDICAL COLLEGE IN WESTERN INDIA to carry out implantation of both self-expanding and balloon expanding aortic valves in patients with high surgical risk. This case done free of cost under DCGI certified clinical study.  The procedure was done by Dr. A. U. Mahajan under guidance of Dr. P. J. Nathani Sir.

The Department of Cardiology organized A Live audio visual workshop of Cardiac Interventions on 14th February, 2018, with live relay in Auditorium.  This was organized as a prelude to TRINITY 2018 programme.  In the said workshop cases of EP, Coronary Angioplasty & Balloon Mitral Valvuloplasty were performed by Dr. Yash Lokhandwala , Visiting Consultant and faculty of Cardiology Department.

Workshop on Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)

A workshop on Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) was conducted by Department of Cardiology on 21.6.2018, wherein 3 patients with severe aortic stenosis with high surgical risk underwent TAVI as part of research protocol of Hydra Valve. The procedures were conducted by Dr A U Mahajan and team of Department of Cardiology under the guidance of Dr P J Nathani.

Dr. Gintautas Leliauskas from the Department of Cardiology, University of Copenhegan, Denmark was the visiting faculty for the said workshop.

The above workshop has established Department of Cardiology, LTMGH Hospital as the ONLY CENTRE IN INDIA WHERE 3 TAVI were done in a single day.
