Established in 1965 and founded by Dr. V.N. Panse (1966-72), the
department of Preventive and Social Medicine (Community Medicine) has come a
long way in teaching, training, research and patient care
activities.

Since the birth of the department, Dr. V.N. Panse (1966-72), Dr.
Meenal Kekare (1972-80), Dr. Gopa Kothari (1980-1990), Dr. PSN Reddy
(1990-2000), and Dr. Daksha Pandit (2000-2008), Dr. R.M. Chaturvedi (2008-2014),
Dr. Balkrishna Adsul (2014-2015) and the present Head Dr. Seema Bansode Gokhe
(2015 onwards) have shaped the department to the present glory.

The Department of Community Medicine is actively involved in
betterment of people’s health, through its comprehensive health care approach,
the pillars of which are - preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative
health care services and research activities.

The department imparts medical education to undergraduate, post
graduate and paramedical students in Community Medicine and Public Health.

Training, monitoring & evaluation of the Interns is an
essential component of the department.

We,
as a department, jointly and conscientiously endeavor to achieve the goals and
objective of the department and utilize our professional proficiency for
planning, coordination and implementation of quality Academic Programs, to
develop community health/ public health professionals in acquiescence with the
directions of The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), The Medical
Council of India (MCI) and University Grants Commission (UGC).

We
recognize that, Health is a medium of Socio-economic development and that
Primary Health Care with an epidemiological approach is the key to ensure
holistic health care.
o We adopt and practice the
principles of Modern Management and Medical Educational Technology to impart
Quality Medical Education Technology and provide an empowering, learning
environment, to evolve Leadership in Public Health Management in students/
Trainees who will influence health policies, programs, and collaborative partnerships at national and
international levels
