World Breast Feeding Week celebration – July 2024
The World Breast Feeding Week celebration is conducted every year in the month of August. The activities are carried out from the month of July onwards.
This year the Residents from Community Medicine dept participated in the Street play which was guided by Dr Sujata Pol Prof Addl. Our Residents won the Third Prize in the competition on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week 2024.
The Residents also participated in the Poster competition which was done by Dr Shraddha Rasage under the guidance of Dr Sujata Pol and she had bagged the First Prize in the poster competition.
Congratulations to all of them and to Dr Sujata Pol.

THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE
The Department of Community Medicine offers comprehensive healthcare services like curative,
preventive and promotive services at Urban Health Centre Dharavi and Rural Health Training
Centre, Vasind. More than 18,476 adult patients and 1,893 pediatric patients were given
healthcare services in the last year in UHTC, Dharavi. 23,582 beneficiaries were provided
Comprehensive healthcare services at Rural Health Training Centre, Vasind. The Department is
also playing a major role in planning and coordinating health camps.
Integrated Disease Surveillance Program is another crucial activity that is for reporting all the
patients with monsoon related disease and specifically Covid-19, since 2020. Total 1647 Covid-
19 positive patients were admitted and treated in L.T.M.M.C. & G.H. from 1 st January 2021 to
31 st December 2021. Total 1118 Covid-19 positive patients were discharged from L.T.M.M.C. &
G.H. in that duration.
To combat Covid-19 disease and as a part of control measures against Covid-19, vaccines
have been launched all over India and in L.T.M.M.C. & G.H, Sion vaccination drive started from
16 January 2021. Total 1,85,859 beneficiaries were given vaccines from Covid Vaccination
Centre, Sion from 16 th January 2021 to 31 st January 2021.
Along with these port-folios; Department of Community Medicine also looks after Internship
program of LTMMC & GH, Sion-22 as well as conducts various Health check-up and
Emergency camps.
TRAINING PROGRAMMES: 1. Training Program for Covid Vaccination was conducted by
MCGM (F South) in co-ordination with Department of Community Medicine for Health Care
Workers, Data entry Operators and Volunteers of Vaccination Centre. 2. Training for Covid
Vaccination was also given at the institutional level to Resident Doctors, Intern Doctors, Nursing
Students.
OTHER ACTIVITIES:
Department of Community Medicine was involved as a Verification team in verification of TB
free claim under sub-national verification in two districts i.e Centenary and Ghatkopar districts
from February 2021 to March 2021. The Department of Community Medicine also did Sero-
Survey-5 of MCGM to detect presence of Covid antibody levels over the period of 6 months.
Mahad Flood Medical Relief Camp By LTMG Hospital team
Due to the heavy rainfall in the month of July many parts of the Maharashtra state were facing
flood situations. The districts like Raigad, Kolhapur, Sangli and others were particularly affected.
Raigad district had seen landslides and severe flood in some of the areas, where many people lost
their lives and livelihoods. Mahad city and Chiplun also saw severe rainfall and flooding in the
entire city for over two days from 21/07/2021 to 23/07/2021 causing extensive loss of precious
lives, belongings and livelihoods in the unfortunate incident.... Read more

programme was organized for health care promotion.

Nutrition Mela was organized in collaboration with ICDS project Dharavi and Food
and science dept of BMN college, SNDT unit, Wadala. Twenty students of
dietetics participated in Nutritious recipe competition. Total 55 Aanganwadi
workers participated in the programme and answered quiz related to balanced
diet and healthy cooking habits on 7 th September 2018. The judge for the
competition were Dr. Seema S. Bansode Gokhe. Mr. Tirath sir CDO at Dharavi, generated
donation of Rs. 10,000 for the nutrition mela, which was very successful
programme. The programme was successful by the efforts of Dr. Pallavi (RMO),
Dr. Deepak (RMO), Dr. Divya (SMO)
Leprosy and skin disease survey in collaboration with National Leprosy Eradication
Programme (NLEP) and Bombay Leprosy Project (NGO) from 24 th September to 9 th
October 2018.

Medicine along with Mumbai Breastfeeding Promotion Committee (MBPC) conducted
the World Breastfeeding Week 2018 Inaugaration programme on 2nd
August 2018 at Main Auditorium of LTMMC & GH Sion. Dr. Archana Bhalerao,
Chairperson, Public Health Committee MCGM was the Chief Guest of the program. Dr
Avinash Supe, Director (ME & MH) & Dean, Seth
GSMC & KEMH and Dr Padmaja Keskar, Executive Health Officer, MCGM
were the Guests of Honor. Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life was the theme for 2018.Dr. Seema S.
Bansode Gokhe Prof. & Head, Dept. of Community Medicine , President MBPC was the Chief Coordinator
and Dr. Sujata Pol, Jt. Secretary was the joint coordinator of the program. The
program was a grand success.
Three Breastfeeding
awareness sessions were conducted by the Resident Medical Officers of UHTC, Dharavi under the guidance of
Dr. Seema Bansode-Gokhe (Prof. & Head), Dr. Vijaykumar Singh, (Prof.-
Addl), Dr.Pallavi Shelke, (Associate Professor), Dr. Payal Laad (Assistant
Professor), Mr. Ram Meghare (CDO), Mr. Tirath Singh Arora (MSW) at Immunisation
OPD, Urban Health Training Centre, Dharavi on 01/08/2018. This program benefited approximately 20
women.

program & A training program on IYCN was conducted for ASHA
workers on 30.08.18 at RHTC Vashind Residents posted at RHTC did the job of
training under the guidance of Dr. Seema S. Bansode Gokhe Prof. & Head, Dr
Vijaykumar Singh,Prof. (Addl) & Dr Satish , Asst. Prof. Dept. of Community
Medicine.
The cultural program
‘RIMZIM’ was held on 10th August at Main Auditorium of
LTMMC SIon. Dr Pallavi Shelke and Dr Sujata Pol did the performance
in the program. It was very well appreciated.
Dept. of Community Medicine provided Medical support Mumbai Ultra –The 12 hour Run which was held on 15th August 2018. There were 30 doctors present at the
site. There were 400 runners, however, no casualty was reported. The support
was highly appreciated by the organizers. Dr Pallavi Shelke, Assoc. Prof. Dept.
of Community Medicine coordinated the event under the guidance of Dr. Seema S. Bansode Gokhe Prof. & Head,
Dept. of Community Medicine.
