The current Head of the Department is Dr. Mukund Jagannathan, who graduated from Nair Hospital in 1990. He was appointed as Associate Professor in November 1997, and became HOD in June 1998. He has been a University teacher (independent) from 1998, and has been responsible for training a large number of Plastic Surgeons, now settled in various parts of India. He is examiner for Plastic Surgery in various Universities in India.

He has a large experience in Cleft, Craniofacial and aesthetic surgery. He has frequently been invited as a guest speaker for various conferences in India and abroad. He is an international member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as a life member of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India, and the Indian Society of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial anomalies. He has also been the scientific chairperson for various conferences.
