Pharmacovigilance Committee – LTMMC and LTMGH
Pharmacovigilance is the science of detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects, particularly the long and short term adverse effects of the medicines.
The “Pharmacovigilance committee” has been set up in the Lokmanya Municipal Medical College and General Hospital, Sion, Mumbai with the following goals:
- To generate awareness about the Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) among the healthcare providers and the students of the LTMMC & GH, Sion through various activities.
- Spontaneous reporting of the ADRs occurring in the patients who are admitted in the hospital and in the OPDs to the department of Pharmacology, which are then forwarded to the appropriate authorities i.e. National Pharmacovigilance Centre (National Co-ordination Centre-NCC) at Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ghaziabad.
- To carry out causality assessment for all the ADRs.
- To undertake scientific and research activities pertaining to the ADRs.
- To make efforts to minimize the chances of ADRs and thereby make the drug therapy safer and more rational.
- To take up activities that strengthen the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India.
