A.
Teaching:
The Department of Pharmacology is
involved in teaching the subject to various courses prescribed by Maharashtra
University of Health Sciences (MUHS).
Courses under MUHS-
II
MBBS
It comprises of three terms of 6
months each during which lectures, practicals & tutorial classes are
conducted as per the syllabus.
Internal exams:

exams (Theory and Practicals) are conducted during the tenure as per the
guidelines of MUHS.
Internal Assessment:

Minimum requirement for internal
assessment: A candidate must obtain 35% in Theory and Practical taken together.
Competitive
Exams:
Students participate in collegiate and
intercollegiate competitive examinations and quiz in Pharmacology. There are
two competitive exams held by the Department of Pharmacology, they are:

G M Phadke Award sponsored by Institution.
·
Shri
Amrut Modi Unichem Competitive exam in Pharmacology, sponsored by Unichem
Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Students are also involved in ICMR
projects.
II
Yr Bachelor of Occupational Therapy & II Yr Bachelor of Physiotherapy
A series of at least 40 lectures are
conducted over the period of one year as per the syllabus.

Post
graduate teaching:
The total strength of residents is
nine with minimum of three admissions every year. In the three academic years
they are involved in conducting lectures, seminars, symposia, journal clubs,
animal experiments & activities related to clinical research,
pharmacovigilance and drug utilization studies. They are actively involved in
national & international clinical trials, where they are trained in
procuring, preparing, taking ethical clearance, managing & maintaining the
documents as well as electronic data transfer (e CRF) required for the
clinical trial. The scope of Pharmacology postgraduates is excellent in the
fields of academics, research, pharmacovigilance, drug regulatory affairs and
in Pharmaceutical industries.

Bulletin on ADR
It is published every four months and
gives a glimpse of the ADR monitoring program being conducted at LTMMC &
GH. The bulletin reports adverse reactions received from the wards and OPDs of
LTMMC, articles on regulatory affairs related to ADRs along with interesting
case reports, quiz and crossword. The bulletin is distributed to Medical colleges,
Pharmaceutical companies all over India as well as to the Drug Regulatory
bodies.

Clinical RIA Laboratory
Patients of thyroid related disorders
are referred from other departments to this clinic for diagnosis and opinion.
The thyroid assay is performed by Radio Immuno Assay (RIA) technique. On
referral, the patients take appointment for the assay. The O.P.D. is run every
Wednesday from 9am to 12noon. On an average 30 new patients are evaluated
every O.P.D. Blood tests for T3, T4, and TSH are run every 2 weeks. The
department also runs tests for estimation of serum FSH, LH and prolactin
levels.

Research activities:
Both preclinical and clinical
research activities are encouraged in the department and facilities in the form
of well equipped laboratory and technical staff is available. We also have the
facility for conducting clinical trials as per ICHGCP Guidelines
F.
Central Animal House
The department houses the Central
Animal House which has rats, mice, rabbits and guinea pigs used for
experimental studies. There are three different rooms for animals, one for rat
& mice, second for rabbits & third for guinea pigs. Each room is about
200 sq ft area, total of 600 sq ft area. The central animal house is registered
with CPCSEA.The animal experiments are carried out by the postgraduate students
as their PG curriculum and the faculty after taking clearance from the animal
ethics committee.
